In college, there was a class where we read a book called How Starbucks Saved My Life. It is about an executive who is knocked down and unable to find work. He eventually finds a job at Starbucks and slowly finds his life and luck turn back around.
As I look back on that time in my life, I realize now that while I enjoyed the book, there was a large part of me that didn’t really understand that book. I was too young with too little life experience to understand what it really meant to have a job or career or company or organization save a life. And that continued to be true for while in my life. Until it happened to me.
Norwex is a 25 year old company from Norway that’s mission is to radically reduce chemicals in our homes. They do this by providing a way of cleaning, whether you’re cleaning your house, self, children, or fur babies, with only a cloth and water. Norwex came into my life about three years ago. A friend invited me to her house for a party. I went (fairly begrudgingly, I admit) to support her. Wow! Am I glad I did. I fell in love with the product, company, and mission. I started my own collection of products that day and then turned around and shared it with my friends and family too!
While I have enjoyed getting rid of almost all the cleaning chemicals in my house and using my Norwex products instead, this is not how they saved my life. As my past blog posts have shared, the past couple years have stretched me in many ways, which has not always been graceful for me. I reached a place where I was exhausted and burned out. I wasn’t ready to give in but also didn’t have anything left. I knew I needed a change but didn’t know what direction to go. And that is where Norwex came back into the picture. Other than continuing to use the products, I had forgotten about Norwex for years. It wasn’t until a fateful morning when I sought the advice of a dear friend that I was reminded of how impactful this company would be in my life.
I made the decision to move my life toward greater things and signed up as an independent consultant with Norwex. With a minimal initial investment and a few days worth of work, I had made almost a thousand dollars and received more free product than I knew what do with. Not only that, but I was loving what I was doing. I got to hang out with fun women and share how they could make their homes healthier and safer for their families.
While the quick wins were really powerful, the reason I am truly grateful for this company is because of the support and network that I walked into. I knew I was tired but had no idea how tense I had become until I finally could breathe again. I was immediately greeted with open arms by so many encouraging and powerful ladies. They shared their best business practices and taught me what they learned in their experience. After working on my own, by myself, for so long, I finally felt like I belonged somewhere again. I was with others who had big dreams too! And they were living those dreams – either with or through having Norwex in their lives. I started feeling more hopeful and confident than I had in months.
This is still a new journey for me. No matter what role Norwex has on my life path, I am grateful for the impact that is has had right now. I wanted to share this story because I think that things show up for us when we need them – and I believe in sharing things that give hope.
If you would like to take a look at the Norwex products or would like to find out how you can learn more, please go here. As always, let me know your thoughts below in the comments. I love to hear from you!
It is awesome how something, out of the blue can make an impact. It is always fun when it is a totally unexpected thing that makes that difference. Good for you and hopes that your business takes off for you. 🙂
